Deborah is a Senior Associate Solicitor in the Private Client team at Battens specialising in Wills and Probate, assisting clients with drafting and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection Matters. Deborah is a dual qualified South African Attorney and Solicitor. Prior to joining Battens in 2017 on her relocation to the UK, Deborah worked as an advisory lawyer for an international financial services company specialising in estate planning, tax planning and retirement planning.

Deborah is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and holds a Diploma in Trusts and Estates.

Deborah can help clients with their personal planning, assisting them with putting an effective Will in place which maximises benefits to their loved ones and ensuring that their wishes can be carried out.

Deborah also assists clients with the drafting and registration of Lasting Powers of Attorney providing practical advice to ensure that client’s families are in the best position to support them when it is necessary. Deborah also acts for Executors on Probate matters, including obtaining Grants of Probate and dealing with inheritance tax matters with HMRC ensuring all relevant exemptions, including agricultural property and business property relief, are claimed so as to minimise any tax liability, as well as offering a complete administration service for Executors, working alongside accountants or tax practitioners as required.
