The team has a strong record of success in settling a wide range of disputes
Litigation can be expensive, sometimes very expensive! We are able to advise on what methods of funding are best to use in each individual case.
If the case is suitable, we are willing to accept instructions on the basis of fee arrangements, which depend on the outcome of the case, including conditional fee agreements, also called no-win no-fee agreements. With conditional fee agreements, we are paid hourly rate fees, but only if we win the case. We also act for clients under legal expenses insurance, working closely with their insurers.
Where a dispute involves unpaid money, outstanding debts or recovery of assets, our debt recovery lawyers can advise on the most practical route forward.
We have a strong record of success in the dispute resolution we undertake, and our clients can be assured of having a strong and skilful team in their corner.

FAQs
Do you need to have a lawyer if you are going to Court?
Although you don’t need legal representation, having a qualified legal professional gives you the best chance. They are qualified to advise you on the strengths and weaknesses of your claim, prepare Court documents, guide you through the process and represent you at hearings and assess alternative solutions such as mediation. This is often a more effective way to solve your dispute as opposed to “DIY”.
Can I decide not to continue with my Court claim if my circumstances change?
Yes, but it has consequences. If you decide, for whatever reason, that you do not want to continue with the claim, then you will need to pay the costs of the other party up to that point, unless you can reach a settlement on different terms. That is why it is vital that you consider your position, including the strength of your claim, before you issue Court proceedings. Professional advice can be helpful before proceedings are issued.
“Great Service from everyone I spoke with.”
“I have had dealings with a number of solicitors over the years but Battens stands out for me as the one who inspired the most confidence and in whose hands I have felt safe. I really felt Peter Livingstone, Lynn Voizey and Cate Barnes had my best interests at heart and went above and beyond to support me. They were very efficient in keeping me updated with progress and obtaining very positive outcomes for me and my family. Any queries were dealt with swiftly in a professional and friendly manner. I will be very happy to call Battens again should I need of a solicitor in the future.”
“Ceri was outstanding from the get go . Her communication skills were exceptional in what was a complicated situation. She understood the entire situation in a very short period of time. She handled the opposing legal time with contempt they deserved as they had overly demanding. I would have no hesitation to recommend Ceri to anyone”
