Georgina is a Senior Associate Solicitor in the highly respected Family Team at Battens and an Accredited member of the Law Society’s Children’s Panel, working primarily on Dorset cases. She dedicates 100% of her fee earning time to Family Law.
Georgina qualified as a solicitor in 2006 and joined Battens in 2014. She joined the Law Society’s Children’s Panel in 2018 and cases involving children continue to be her specialism.
Georgina was appointed in 2021 as a Visiting Fellow by Bournemouth University in recognition of the lectures she delivers to those learning Law and Social Policy (BA & MA level) at Bournemouth University.
Georgina has a huge amount of experience in cases concerning children, as reflected by her appointment to the Law Society Children’s Panel and her work with Bournemouth University. She specialises in advising parents, wider family members, CAFCASS children’s guardians and children directly, non-molestation/occupation order proceedings and supporting parents with learning difficulties within proceedings.
Examples of cases Georgina has worked on include:
- Successfully represented a mother in a Non-Accidental Injury case for a baby to secure the return of the child into her care in three separate cases;
- Representing a teenage girl, who was the subject of honour abuse within emergency care proceedings and successfully concluding matters in accordance with her wishes.
- Successfully sought re-assessment of a parent within care proceedings who had learning difficulties, due to the assessment not having met the Good Practice Guidance on Working with Parents with a Learning Disability 2007 (updated 2016).
- Ensuring the PLO process (pre-proceedings) is properly used to progress the case and hold the Local Authority to account, when it is not.
- Receiving instructions directly from a teenage girl within complex sexual abuse care proceedings and helping her navigate her way through.
- Seeking the provision of appropriate special measures facilities to be made available in the Weymouth family court for vulnerable witnesses and discussing such provisions with the local Judges and site manager.
- Ensuring that clients whose first language is not English, have the correct support to enable them to fully engage in the process.
Her empathetic and professional approach in these cases is well known and clients are strongly supported throughout the process so that they are able to fully understand and engage in what is happening. This has sometimes involved Georgina providing Easy-Read versions of evidence or advice to clients, where their learning difficulties are such, that they would struggle to understand the most common forms of communication. She is regularly instructed by teenagers directly and is able to ensure their engagement in the proceedings (at a level that they are comfortable with).
Georgina’s focus is always to ensure that proceedings are fair and that the client fully understands whatever situation they are facing. Georgina has a strong reputation for providing clear but empathetic advice at all times. Her reputation with other professionals is high and ensures a good working relationship with them, to achieve the best outcome for her clients.
Georgina Bacon in her spare time also a Trustee for a local Youth Service in her area.
