I am delighted to join the employment team at Battens having been aware of their reputation as a fantastic employer for a long while.
Working previously in law firms in Bristol and Exeter I have an extensive experience of litigation having spent a number of years as a paralegal undertaking litigation work ranging from breach of contract to personal injury.
I undertook my legal training in Cheltenham with a medium size commercial law firm, specialising in employment law. During this time I assisted with a significant number of Tribunal Claims as well as advising clients on all aspects of employment and HR, including running grievance and disciplinary processes, redundancy and restructure as well as undertaking corporate support work.
At Battens, as well as looking after our BattensHR clients, I regularly negotiate and advise upon settlement agreements and am happy to negotiate pre-claim settlements as well as undertaking advocacy at the Employment Tribunal.
I have a particular interest in long term sickness absence and am happy to advise clients on making reasonable adjustments in the work place and helping employees return to work, as well as guiding employers and employees through an employee’s rights under the Equality Act 2010.
My training and previous experience ensures that I always approach my advice to businesses from a commercial standpoint rather than simply advising on the law in isolation. I also appreciate how important going to work is to most people and the impact a difficult work environment can have on an individual. I always aim to give straightforward practical advice with a view to resolving employment issues as positively and efficiently as possible.
Outside work I am a keen gardener and love growing my own veg. You will often find me either in the garden or taking a stroll along the Devon coast with my family, ice-cream in hand whatever the weather.
"Katy's kindness and understanding at a very difficult time for me was above and beyond what I expected. Thank you."
