This is an alternative way to resolve all issues arising from family breakdown and/or divorce.
We understand that this can be one of the most challenging times in your life, and we therefore offer a service whereby our skilled mediators can meet separately with you and your partner to discuss possible issues following your family breakdown.
Our mediators are qualified solicitors and trained professionals, who are neutral and independent. Mediators do not give legal advice, but will help look at solutions and meet with you and your partner to discuss these. Your mediator can help you resolve any issues you might have in relation to finances or children. This can cover anything from how to divide savings or deal with debts, to arrangements for parents to spend time with their children or where children will live.
If you wish to try mediation, we will see you for an initial assessment, which takes around 45 minutes. This is an opportunity to discuss the process and decide if you think it will work for you. If both you and your partner feel that mediation is an option, we will arrange a first joint session, which would normally last around 1 hour 30 minutes. Your mediator will help you exchange information and ideas to work towards solutions.
After one or more meetings, any proposals are recorded by the mediator in a document, which you can each take to your solicitor to be put into effect. The main advantages of mediation are that it is confidential, voluntary and can be cheaper than court. You are in charge of the decisions, and outcome, and it can be used at any time, even if court proceedings have already been started.
