Maria Brindley

Maria specialises in the acquisition and disposal of businesses and companies. Her easy-going yet professional manner has led her to act for large corporations and well known household names, as well as for smaller and owner-managed businesses.
Maria's experience includes advising the shareholders of a specialist software company on its disposal to Novell, acting for a US manufacturing company on the acquisition of what would become a UK subsidiary, representing a major high street bookmaker on a number of business and company acquisitions, and representing an engineering company and its Swiss parent on the sale of its assets to a spring and wire manufacturer.
Maria gives regular general commercial advice to a company which provides training in relation to the world's most up to date helicopters, and to a US-based, global manufacturing company.
In the fields of sports and leisure, Maria has secured charitable status for Yeovil Town Football Community Sports Trust Limited, acted for Weymouth College on the acquisition of Redlands Sports Club, acted on the disposal of the shares in Images Leisure, and advised on the acquisition and sale of a number of businesses in the hospitality industry.
As well as disposals and acquisitions, Maria has experience in a wide range of corporate matters, including advising on the setting up of companies, negotiating shareholder agreements for company investors, advising on management buy-outs, and providing general corporate and commercial advice such as advising directors on their duties under the Companies Act 2006.
Maria is also a business mentor for Young Enterprise's Employability Scheme and works closely with students at Budmouth College to teach them business and life skills.
She gained her first degree in Politics at University College Wales, Swansea, before achieving an MA in International Politics. After taking transitional studies in law at Bristol, she joined Bond Pearce and from their corporate finance team joined Battens in 2007.
Having grown up on Hayling Island, Maria is a keen dinghy sailor and is a member of Weymouth Sailing Club where she keeps her Laser dinghy. Maria is also a keen skier and sportswoman.
Maria has been a key driver in the establishment of the Battens annual beach volleyball tournament which is now an exciting and established event in the calendar for Weymouth's business community.
