Katherine Gilmour

Katherine specialises in corporate and general commercial law. Her friendly and practical approach has helped her to build strong links and relationships with clients, and to earn the confidence and respect of fellow professionals.
Katherine is experienced in dealing with the acquisition and disposal of all forms of businesses and of companies of a variety of sizes. Deals successfully handled by Katherine include the disposal of a software company to a competitor which wished to acquire the new system of defence-based software developed by the target company and yet to retain the services of the shareholder-directors after completion of the transaction. Deals also include advising a US group on their restructure and on their disposal of two different arms of their operations for a multi-million figure.
Katherine is well known for providing sensible commercial advice to a range of businesses throughout Somerset and Dorset. She provides general commercial advice to the nationally renowned Weymouth and Dorset National Sailing Academy and has acted for a fast-growing financial services company in a number of its business acquisitions.
Work undertaken for local businesses and organisations includes drafting terms and conditions of trade for a company designing and implementing irrigation systems for golf courses, incorporating heavy horse societies for the protection of their members, and the purchase of an otter sanctuary.
As well as business sales and purchases, Katherine is a specialist at advising companies on all aspects of their day to day running, from incorporation through all stages of their growth and changes of structure. She advises on company set-up to ensure that the appropriate shareholders' agreements and articles of association are put in place, and on internal re-organisations. She puts into effect management buy-outs, advises directors and shareholders on their responsibilities and obligations, and assists them in preparing for and confidently adapting to the impact of the Companies Act 2006.
She also advises business owners regarding the strategies they should adopt and the measures they should put in place in order to prepare for and then achieve a successful disposal of their business when the time comes for them to realise their investment and to take value out of their company.
Katherine also helps clients to enter into partnership agreements, including agricultural partnerships.
Katherine is a member of Women in Business.
Katherine studied law at Somerville College, Oxford. After completing her studies at Chester College of Law, she trained at Battens, qualifying as a solicitor into the Company Commercial team. She was promoted to Senior Associate in 2007.
