Kate Golding
Associate Solicitor - Personal Injury Department
Kate is an Associate solicitor specialising in personal injury cases. She represents predominantly Claimants, but also Defendants, in claims arising from road traffic accidents, accidents at work, tripping and slipping accidents and industrial disease.
Kate brings a wealth of experience to the team, having conducted personal injury claims since the end of 2001. Though she now generally advises Claimants, prior to her time here at Battens Kate worked on the opposite side of the fence, advising insurance companies, local authorities and self-insured organisations when defending personal injury claims which had been brought against them. This extensive Defendant-side experience has given Kate the invaluable ability to be able to provide practical, realistic advice to Claimants as to whether their claim has reasonable prospects of success, taking account of the arguments on liability that she anticipates will be raised on the Defendant, and whether the claim should therefore be pursued. In addition, this experience enables Kate to provide a realistic assessment of the likely level of compensation that a Claimant can expect to receive, again taking account of counter arguments likely to be raised by the other side.
Kate represents most clients under conditional fee agreements, also called no win no fee agreements, or under legal expenses insurance. There are special considerations to take into account under such arrangements, and Kate is well versed in pursuing claims on those bases and in fulfilling all of the criteria necessary for success.
Kate initially joined Battens in 2000 as a trainee solicitor. Upon qualification as a solicitor in December 2001, she joined the insurance department of Veitch Penny in Exeter, specialising in Defendant personal injury and insurance. Her clients included many well-known insurance companies, Devon and Somerset County Councils and the NHS Litigation Authority. From there, Kate moved to Bond Pearce in Bristol, becoming part of the liability claims team and again specialising in Defendant personal injury and insurance, representing clients including the Royal Mail Group, Network Rail and several well-known insurance companies. Kate rejoined Battens in June 2007.
She is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.
When she is not working or looking after her young daughter, Kate enjoys playing the oboe and piano and singing with the Somerset Chamber Choir.
