Jeremy Chapman
Accredited Mediator - Dispute Resolution Department
Jeremy's speciality is construction, and he supports clients who are involved in construction disputes. He does so whether the client is the builder or the customer. Drawing on his considerable experience in construction, he is able to advise on very technical matters and literally to get down to the nuts and bolts of the matter. He is able to give specialist advice on exactly what sort of nails a project should have needed and indeed how many, and so to get to the heart of the questions around which construction disputes commonly revolve.
He is able to visit the site and to review all the relevant paperwork, and then to advise whether the dispute should be resolved by negotiation, arbitration, litigation or by other practical routes.
Jeremy works with other members of the litigation team, and in particular with Gareth Jones, supporting and guiding where needed.
Prior to joining Battens, Jeremy spent 14 years as a Regional Director of The Federation of Master Builders. In this position, he gained extensive experience of construction disputes, with the emphasis on how to resolve disputes in a way which helped both builders and their customers. He also spent much of that time giving practical advice to both sides on how to manage the contracts which were in place. Those contracts were designed to regulate the relationships between parties and to cater for changes to the specification, the timescale and the cost, and Jeremy acquired invaluable experience of how to work with and within those contracts so as to ensure fair and appropriate outcomes for those involved.
