James Owen trained at Battens Solicitors and joined the Property Department on qualification in February 1996, where he practised until 2004. He then spent the next 3 years at Farnfield and Nicholls Solicitors as a partner and Head of the Property Department before returning to Battens Agriculture Department in 2007.
James specialises in all types of agricultural law and acts for a large number of local farmers and estates. He is from a local farming family and is a member of the Agricultural Law Association.
James' particular expertise is advising both Landlords and Tenants in connection with agricultural tenancies arising out of the Agricultural Holdings Act 1986, including successions and Farm Business Tenancies under the Agricultural Tenancies Act 1995.
James works closely with colleagues in the Private Client Department and Planning Department in order to provide his clients with a comprehensive service, including tax and planning advice.
