Buying Or Selling A Business - Getting A Result You Can Bank On

As it is announced that the UK is finally moving out of the longest recession since records began, confidence should once more grow in the market for buying and selling businesses. With this is mind, our speakers will be giving advice on the sales process and how to best place yourself for a successful transaction.

Our guest speaker will be one of the former directors of Church House Trust plc, a privately owned bank in the West Country which recently became an important part of Virgin Money and has since been re-branded as Virgin Bank Limited. The sale of the bank to Virgin achieved international press coverage and will be of significant long-term importance to the UK economy.

• Maria Brindley, an Associate Solicitor at Battens Solicitors Limited, will look at the legal process of buying or selling a business and will highlight some of the practical matters you should consider to ensure that you go on to achieve a successful outcome.
• Maeve Vickery, Head of Employment at Battens, will look at the dos and don’ts of handling employment issues in a business transfer and will give some key pointers on navigating your way through TUPE compliance rules.
• David Batten/Graham Hughes of Virgin Bank Limited will speak about their personal experience as Directors and Shareholders in the sale of Church House Trust plc to Richard Branson’s Virgin Money, from the first expressions of interest all the way through to completion of the sale at the end of January.

We will provide time for questions and aim to conclude the seminar by 9.30am. A cooked breakfast will be provided. We very much hope you will join us.
